This exhibit considers the relationship
between the human and the natural worlds. It explores the many ways artists are thinking about, and responding to, nature, from close observation to narrative and metaphor, from work that looks at the threats of climate change and mass extinction to art that is personal and intimate. Our goal is to showcase a wide range of ideas, media, and emotions, serving to evoke the complex and layered connections between us and our world.

How does your work address the relationship between the human and the natural world?
My first love in Painting is plein air. Painting in itself is exciting enough, but when painting outside, it is very difficult not to feel connected and energized. There is an elemental, primal aspect to it working outside. Being in the elements, with changing light and changing weather conditions, while I am translating the information that is pumping through me, everything becomes amped up. Last Winter I had the need to pare things down in the landscape, so I went into my studio the for a while to work with one big form in space, my head, with the hopes that it would inform my work in plein air.
